Ground Work Sessions

I use a mix of the principles and training methods of Dr. Andrew McLean's Equine Learning Theory and Tristan Tucker's TRT method. This means that the horse is taught the correct responses from the ground first which allows the horse's training (or re-training) to be taken very easily and clearly from the ground into ridden work, resulting in an appropriately trained, correctively reactive happy horse that requires minimal aiding.

Ground work can also be so helpful if, for example, you are experiencing trouble leading, or loading for travel, an inability to stand still whilst mounting, or have spooking, spinning or other issues resulting in the horse 'over-reacting' to situations. Teaching the horse how to manage his flight instinct is hugely beneficial for horse and human. These ground work sessions are usually carried out on an individual basis but it is possible to do some of the work in group situations.

Ground work is often needed when some form of rehabilitation is necessary.  I have devised my own successful program for soft tissue injury.
Ground work is extremely valuable in laying down the foundations with an unbacked horse.  I have first hand experience of this process from my own youngster, whom had minimal human contact until 3 years old.
